Grady Sew Along – Day 4 – Back Construction

It’s DAY 4 of the Grady Sew Along! You should now have the front of your shorts completed, with or without a functional fly. Today we are sewing the entire back construction. Remember that you can mix and match the options in the pattern as you please, meaning you can have the back yoke with a welt pocket or the darts with patch pockets. It’s up to you, so have fun with it!

For both the welt and back pocket options, you are going to need your back pattern piece for pocket placement. For the welt pocket, you will also need your welt pocket piece for welt placement.

If your patch pocket is smaller than the markings on your back patten piece, that is okay! You can center it or place it closer to the inside or outside, depending on preference. For my son’s red shorts, I lined up the pocket to the inside mark but for my daughter’s pink shorts, I centered it. I think they both turned out great.

You will find all of today’s videos on youtube, linked under VIDEOS down below
