Patterns For Pirates – Peglegs

The Peglegs from Patterns for Pirates got a revamp! If you didn’t know already, the Peglegs are one of the most popular patterns from P4P, and a bonus…they are free!

There is the regular Pegs with solid legs. There’s an add-on pack with a color-block side panel (with or without a pocket) and a contour waistband. There’s also a Maternity add-on pack. Now, there is yet another add on for the pegs – the Colorblock Pack. This one has got to be my favorite. I love the diagonal color-blocked legs and the heart shaped back waistband. I need to make another pair with the back waistband pocket and I already have the perfect fabric for another pair! (or two or three…)

In addition to the new add-on, the pegs have been revamped to fit the new P4P size chart, which I love because it fits me better with less grading. I call that a win/win.

The patterns have also been updated to have a projector file! If you haven’t jumped on the Projectors For Sewing bandwagon, you definitely need to.

With the new release, we have the Peg Event! Giveaways, prizes, all sorts of fun stuff and the entire site is 30% off (no code needed, it should be automatically applied to you cart, but see the code below, just in case.)

If this is your first time sewing up the Pegs, fabric choice is super important. Your fabric must have 4-way stretch (meaning it stretches both vertically and horizontally). If you don’t know how to determine your fabrics stretch, watch this video HERE. You need at least 50% stretch in both directions. I personally prefer closer to 75% horizontal stretch (or more), for ease of wearing. I personally don’t need all that compression. Also, if you are sewing the contoured waistband, you will need at least 75% stretch for the waistband, or you run the risk of not being able to get them over your hips. Make sure your fabric also has excellent recovery as well!

I sewed up a size XS but graded the top of the waistband to a Sm. I used Flex athletic fabric from The Fabric Snob (the middle fabric is the Snow Moss Supplex from Greenstyle Creations). This particular athletic is snuuuuugggggg. I have some super nice athletic fabric from Mily Mae Fabrics to try out and The Styled Magnolia‘s ABP is soooooooo nice!

Even though my inseam is the same as what the pattern is drafted for, I shorten these by 1.5″. The more vertical ease your fabric has, the more likely you will need to shorten the inseam, unless you are okay with a little bunching at your ankles. It’s all personal preference though. That’s why we sew, amiright?!

Cheers!
