Joggerathon – Slim Fit Jogger Comparison

Hello, hello! Welcome to the first round of comparisons! The jogger patterns I am comparing in this post are all listed as slim fit based on the pattern instructions or listing description (except for the Carita Joggers. They actually don’t list any type of fit. Based on listing photos, they appear to be more on the slim side, so I have included them here). If you would like to read the (more detailed) individual pattern reviews for any of the patterns in this post, you can find each one of them linked below. Fabric

All the fabric from this past week is from The Fabric SnobThey are a Canadian based company with so many good fabrics! Best thing about Canadian fabric companies, they use meters instead of yards, which means more fabric! All of the solid pairs are Lush Double Brushed Interlock and there are so many colors! This fabric is a 95/5 Cotton Spandex Interlock Knit with approximately 240GSM. It has 75-100% Horizontal stretch and 25-50% vertical (slightly varies between colors) and is 68-70″ wide. The two striped pairs are still interlock, just not brushed, 92/8 Cotton Spandex blend and approx. 260GSM.

Below is a breakdown of pertinent information for each pattern and how they compare to each other. The side-by-side fit comparisons follow and are conveniently numbered for easy reference. ** You can click on each image below to view it larger.** My brief thoughts are at the end of this post. If you want a more detailed review, use the links above to view the individual reviews.

Overall Thoughts

The Carita Joggers and the Penelope Pants are SUPER similar. The main difference is their pockets but the Penelope fits me better overall. The Loggers are definitely the most slim and the Yoggers are the least slim. My favorite pair out of this batch of 6 is probably the Loggers from Patterns for Pirates. I sure love a skinny fit!

1. Ellie and Mac – Good Vibe Joggers

The side seam has tons of excess at the top and I hate that the only pocket is a zippered pocket. Other than that, the fit isn’t too bad.

2. Made for Mermaids – Lexi Loungers

I cheated slightly on the pocket on these. It calls for a patch pocket, but I just reversed it so the patch is attached to the wrong side instead of the front. I definitely would not consider these a slim fit but they are comfortable, casual pair of jogger. They aren’t too tight or too loose.

3. Patterns for Pirates – Loggers

My main issue with these is the waistband. This fabric doesn’t have a strong enough recovery to hold these up, so I’ll definitely be adding elastic to these. I usually cut in between the low and high rise and I’ll definitely continue to do that in the future.

4. Pattern Niche – Carita Joggers

I have some weird fabric excess going on in the crotch. The front view definitely doesn’t appear to be as fitted as the back or side view. I wish these were a little more fitted overall.

5. Petite Stitchery & Co – Yoggers

These are most definitely not a slim fit like the listing says. I would classify these as a relaxed fit. I’m not a big fan of how loose the bottom of the leg is compared to the cuffs. The cuffs are also pretty loose.

6. Sonia Estep Designs – Penelope Pants

These turned out a lot better than my first go around but the grommet placement is so spread out! The pattern also doesn’t mention inseam in the pattern, so these are a little longer than they should be.

Do you have a favorite pair out of the joggers from this past week? I’d love to know in the comments below! Stay tuned! The next 6 joggers are the 5oo4 – Diane Joggers, Blank Slate – Skye, Greenstyle Creations – Brassies, Little Lizard King – Valparaiso, Love Notion – Resolution Bottoms and Lowland Kids – Women’s Joggers.

Happy sewing!

I’m loving your comparison so far! I did something similar, more so for myself and made the Caritas and the Brassies using Fabric Snob Heathered Jersey. I have to say, I definitely prefer the Brassies for mysef, they just fit better. My daughters however LOVE the Caritas. I also love the P4P Loggers but hate the patch pockets. After seeing your Lexi pocket hack, I would definitely remake the Loggers with different pockets. I’m looking forward to seeing your review on the Sinclair JJs!

It’s so funny how everyone has totally different preferences! But it’s still fun to do the comparison! And I am right there with you with the patch pockets. I don’t like them patched on top and will usually do what I did to the Lexi’s. <3 So glad you are enjoying the comparisons!

This is such an awesome resource! Thank you for all your work! Is there any chance you also have a table that includes which patterns have thigh and calf measurements listed?

  • Abbey

Seeing them together, the Loggers definitely look better fitting on you and are clearly the slimmest fit. I also like how the Penelope fit, but can see the extra fabric bunching at back thigh and that would drive me nuts. This interlock fabric is beautiful though.

I’m really enjoying this! The only pattern I owned was the Penelope, and you’ve encouraged me to make that my next project…and change that grommet spacing.

This comparison is so helpful! So far I think I’d like the fit of the Lexis best, but I can’t wait to see next week’s posts!

    This comparison is so cool
    I do like the loggers
I’ve been looking for a jogger pattern but I’m not finding what I want or I just don’t like joggers lol
I’m going to try the loggers as I own that pattern and the Greenstyle pattern
But Ideally I want a straight leg jogger not yo wide to skinny
But I think me having a pear shape my joggers don’t hang like slender people

Thank you so much for this comparison. I always come back to this blog to check different patterns. This really is super helpful and I’m so glad you took the time and effort to do this and share it with us.
