Grady Sew Along – Day 5 – Final Construction

It’s DAY 5 of the Grady Sew Along! I can’t believe it’s already Friday! This week went by so fast and we are already about to wrap up the sew along. If you don’t finish up today, don’t you worry! Tomorrow is our catch up day where I’ll also go over sewing the Grady’s with knit fabric.

You should now have your front sewn and your back sewn. Now it’s time to sew them both together! You will also be attaching your waistband of choice and hemming the bottom of the pants/shorts.

You will find all of today’s videos linked down below PLUS the bonus video for the buttonhole elastic hack! For the hack, you will want to use the back elastic waistband. However, you can still use the fitted waistband if the high hip measurement is smaller than the size you are sewing (which is what I did for my son). You will mainly be using the same instructions for the back elastic waistband with a few additional steps. You will also need button hole elastic and 2 buttons that are no bigger than 5/8″ in diameter and not super thick.

If you are sewing the jean version with the jean button and belt loops, I highly suggest sewing your buttonhole BEFORE attaching the belt loops. At least for me, the belt loops kind of got in the way.

Don’t forget! We are having daily giveaways over on the Sew A Little Seam FB group for this sew along! Be sure to comment on today’s sew along post for your entry in today’s giveaway for a free SALS pattern! (winner will be announced tomorrow) If you want to be eligible for the GRAND PRIZE giveaway for a SALS pattern of your choice and a $50 shop credit to Raspberry Creek Fabric, you have to be an active sew along participant (don’t worry, back posting is allowed). I will have a separate post for your finished Grady pants/shorts for the final giveaway entry and I’ll have that up a little bit later today. Remember, this must be a new sew from the sew along. If you’ve made more than one pair, please post them in separate comments for separate entries. Final entries will close on Saturday at 11:59pm PST. I will announce the winner the following day.

If you have any questions or need any extra help/assistance, feel free to post in the comments below or on the Sew A Little Seam FB group. If you are just tuning in, don’t forget, you can use the links below to hop around to the previous SAL posts.

Happy sewing!
