Greenstyle Creations – Cavallo Leggings

Oh man, it’s been a good month since I last posted something, but it feels soooooo much longer than that! Thank goodness it wasn’t! Hopefully you have been safe and sane during the current pandemic quarantine life that is the current normal. I definitely feel for anyone who had to homeschool this last month. That sounds tough (I can’t even imagine) and I applaud you.

If you haven’t heard, Greenstyle Creations just came out with the Cavallo Leggings. I had the pleasure to test them and let me tell you…they are soooo good! And I’m not just saying that because I helped test them, but because they really are that great. I have made 4 pairs already, another pair that is partially cut out and then I just got fabric in the mail this last week for another pair. Addicted. They are currently on sale right now too!

One of the most unique things about these tights is there isn’t an inseam…what?! It’s kind of weird at first but equally amazing. This makes them perfect for all sorts of activities. They also have a huge optional pocket with 2 finishes? (I’m not really sure if that’s the right word for that…) but there’s a slant pocket (my floral pair) and a scoop pocket (all of my other pairs), kind of like pockets from joggers. The jogger/scoop pockets are my FAVORITE, but really, both are pretty great.

Quick question…do you ride horses? If the answer is yes, these pants are also for you! I WISH I had a horse! The slant pockets are perfect for riding and there’s a knee patch that is specific for those who ride. I need to get some stretch suede so I can make a pair of riding pants to wear when we go back to Utah to visit our family. One of my husband’s cousins has a horse! <3

Adjustments

I sewed up a straight size D. My measurements are (in inches) W:27 H:35 MT:19.25 C:13. These pants have an inseam of 30.5. I’m 5’4 with a 27-28” (28” ends right at my ankle). I first shortened these by 2.5” and ended up shortening by 3” for my final pairs, which was PERFECT. I shortened an inch at both lengthen/shorten lines and another inch at the crop line. I also prefer the optional lower rise and the high-rise waistband. The low-rise with the ultra-high waistband is nice for working out, but I like the regular high-rise waistband for more everyday wear. Though, I’ll definitely still workout in them too. The low-rise with ulra-high waistband ends similarly to the regular higher rise and high waistband. I just like where the waistband seam hits on me with the lower-rise. I’m also not totally used to my pants hitting past my belly button, which is why i prefer the high waistband with the low-rise. It’s just more comfortable for me.

Fabric

I sewed up a few different pairs in a few different fabrics. My blue pair is Deluxe Supplex in Bold Blue from Greenstyle Creations. Even though the fabric is SO nice, I prefer a little more stretch. These have an easy 50% stretch and a firm 75% stretch. I sewed up the low rise with the ultra-high waistband. I think I might take it off and add the high waistband instead. I definitely think I prefer that one more. I also finally sewed up an Express Tank to pair with this. I’m definitely going to have a handful more of those. I have no idea why it took me so long to finally make one!

My floral fabric is athletic brushed poly (ABP) from The Styled Magnolia and it is SO NICE. Suuuupppeerrrr stretchy and soft and the colors are so vibrant. I have been hesitant to cut into this fabric but I finally pulled the trigger for these. I am so glad I did! The white fabric is athletic brushed french terry from So Sew English. It doesn’t have as strong of a recovery, so I added clear elastic to the waistband on these just to be safe

The Grey/white pair is also from Greenstyle Creations (Performance Moss Supplex in Snow/Grey) and these are one of my favorites. The fabric feels so nice on the skin! It also has great stretch. The website says it has the same stretch as the Delux Supplex, but I feel like it has an easier stretch or maybe not as hard as a recovery? I hope they come out with some other colors, I’d totally get more! I also made a matching Power Bra to match. I seriously love this set!

I also got the Castle Grey Arete performance fabric for a pair of these and I am super excited for those. The fabric really is cool to the touch. I’m pretty sure I’m going to need the green ones too. I was SO close to buying it but changed my mind before I placed the order. I also may or may not have ordered some more ABP from The Styled Magnolia… They just have soooooo many cute prints under the Pick-A-Print!

Topstitching is optional and can get a little tricky. I topstitched the long side seam on my coverstitch inside out and I started at the top. It’s definitely doable but takes a little bit more effort!

I hope you love the Cavallos just as much as me!

Happy sewing!

Cheers!
