Joggerathon – Stitch Upon A Time – Arcadia

It’s the last pair of joggers for the main 24! After this we will have the last round of comparisons before the MyFit Joggers from Apostrophe Patterns and the Final Recap! Today is the Arcadia Joggers from Stitch Upon A Time. These joggers are a pretty quick sew with no side seam. They have 3 inseam options (shorts, calf and pants) with two pocket options (a patch and a side seam pocket). There are also two rises, a maternity waistband and an optional drawstring.

Price: $10.00

Size Range: 9 sizes // XXS-4X // 30″-58″ hip

Options Sewn:

  •  Size Sm graded to XS, low rise pants version with pockets. Shortened the pants 2″ since my size has a 30″ inseam.

My Measurements:

  • Waist – 27
  • High Hip – 31
  • Hip – 36
  • Upper Thigh – 21
  • Inseam – 28
  • Height – 5’4

Fabric

This fabric is the Palm Tree Rayon French Terry from Olga’s Closet. It’s a light-medium weight fabric with 2-way stretch, 190gsm and a Poly/Rayon/Spandex blend (80/16/4).

Recommended Fabric: designed for knit fabric and requires only 20% stretch. For the bands, a fabric with at least 5% lycra or spandex is recommended for optimal stretch and recovery, and 50% stretch.

Instructions

Were the instructions easy to follow?

  • No main issues with the actual instructions.
  • On the measurement chart, I don’t like that it says “low waist”. I would prefer that it say “high hip” instead
  • There is a copy shop file (no projector file) however, the larger sizes aren’t projector friendly. There is a piece that has to be cut and taped/glued for the full piece. This doesn’t effect my size but it would be super annoying if I had to sew one of the larger sizes.
  • There are no cuff/band pieces on the copy shop file, only a cut chart (which isn’t my favorite when using a projector).
  • Because these are joggers and have no inseam, it’s impossible to get any size to fit within my projection without having to slide the fabric around.

Pattern

DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PATTERN PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?

Yup! From what I can tell, it looks like the listing photos.

WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?

  • The Arcadia’s have no side seam, which is great in making a quicker sew but this was a pain in the rear to cut out! It’s quite a bit bigger than my projection area, so it took a lot more effort to cut. Normally this is only an issue for me when I cut out maxi dresses, never with pants.
  • Maybe it’s because I sewed the lower rise but the top of my pockets went all the way up to the waistband. Which is fine because I like the way it looks way better than how it is on the line drawing.
  • I don’t like the look of the patch pockets. They are 2 layers thick with raw edges showing all around the pocket except the pocket opening. They are also squared, which I don’t totally love.
  • I hate the waistband on these! I had to find a different fabric since you really need fabric with a TON of stretch for the waistband. Even the Cotton Lycra I used barely had enough stretch. I literally stretched the band as much as physically possible to fit the opening of the pants. Hate it. If I were to sew these again, I would opt to just cut out a new band the same size as the pants opening and tall enough for 2″ elastic to thread through.
  • The fit isn’t too bad; more fitted in the hips and a comfortable loose in the legs.

WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?

I personally wouldn’t sew these again. There are other joggers that I would sew again before I sewed these ones. If you like the style though, it’s not a bad price.

Have you sewn up the Arcadia Joggers? What are your thoughts? I’d love to know in the comments below! If you missed the Rad Patterns – Couch Potato Joggers yesterday, you can check that out HERE. Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for the last side-by-side comparison for the Relaxed Fit Joggers!

Cheers!
