Joggerathon – Brindille and Twig – Track Pants

Hello and welcome to the first day of joggers with a Relaxed Fit (based on pattern/instruction descriptions)! Can you believe that this is the last full week of comparisons?! Where did this month go?! The Track Pants from Brindille and Twig are first up to bat. All the fabric I used this week is from Olga’s Closet.

The BT Track Pants are a pretty simple pattern. There is only one length, one rise, elastic casing for the waistband with an optional drawstring and optional inseam pockets. The main downside with this pattern is the small sizer range with only 6 sizes.

* The Joggerathon is going on ALL month long. If you would like to go back and see any of the previous posts on the Joggerathon, click HERE or to see the pattern line-up, click HERE.

Price: $12.00

Size Range: 6 sizes // XS-xxl // 35.25-44.5″ Hip

Options Sewn:

  • Straight XS with pockets (grading out the waist was difficult because of how the pattern is laid out, so I didn’t grade and hoped for the best! I used my typical elastic measurement as well)
  • Shortened the inseam length by 1″

My Measurements:

  • Waist – 27
  • High Hip – 31
  • Hip – 36
  • Upper Thigh – 21
  • Inseam – 28
  • Height – 5’4

Fabric

The fabric I used for this pair is Solid Chambray French Terry from Olga’s Closet. This fabric is a poly/rayon/spandex blend that is light/medium weight. It also has great drape. This fabric was great for this pair of joggers and it’s so soft!

Recommended Fabric: The instructions say that most types work well, stretchy FT is great. Rib knit or stretchy jersey is recommended for bands.

Instructions

Were the instructions easy to follow?

  • Yup! Instructions were easy to follow.
  • One interesting thing about the sizing is that on the size chart, the inseam increases for each size but the finished inseam measurement is the same for every size.

Pattern

DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PATTERN PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?

Yes! Though, there aren’t very many pictures of the finished product on the listing (or in the FB group) but based on the photo on the listing, it looks the same.

WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?

  • I really like the way the pockets are. I typically HATE inseam pockets, but these ones are sewn more like slat pockets but on the inseam. It lays nicer and looks better than typical inseam pockets. In order to make the pocket look the best, you most likely will need to use your sewing machine so you can get the side seam right up to the edge of the pocket without any raw edges showing.
  • I like encased elastic but I really dislike inserting the elastic into the waistband prior to sewing it onto the pants. It sews up a million times easier to just sew the waistband on first and then threading the elastic through. (If I add the elastic first, it gets in the way and makes my pressure foot uneven and more of a pain in the rear to keep the seam allowance.) So I definitely suggest just making a casing and threading the elastic through an 3″ opening.
  • The circle markings on the pattern piece for the grommets are HUGE. Maybe that’s so you can add interfacing about that size?
  • The only real “change” I made was topstitching the waistband. It didn’t effect the fit at all, but since I like to use soft waistband elastic, I have to at least tack it down so it doesn’t twist in the wash.
  • The way the pattern is laid out on the file, it’s not the easiest to grade since all the changes happen on the inseam and crotch curve

WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?

I actually really like how these turned out and I might make them again (I have so many joggers now so I really don’t need more haha). However, I really don’t think they are worth $12 with the lack of sizes included, no other options and grading is more difficult. So for me, it’s hard to justify a recommendation. There are similar jogger patterns out there that have better size inclusion and more options.

Have you sewn up the Track Pants? What are your thoughts? I’d love to know in the comments below! If you missed the Part 2 Regular fit comparison post yesterday, you can check that out HERE. Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for the Plateau Joggers from Closet Core Patterns!

Cheers!
