Joggerathon – Peekaboo – Java

Hello and welcome to the second week of the regular fit joggers! (Based on the pattern/instruction descriptions.) Remember, regular means these joggers are not too tight and not too loose. All fabric this week is from Mily Mae Fabrics, except for Rockerbye Destash and So Sew English, who both have patterns AND fabric.

First up this week is the Java Joggers from Peekaboo Patterns. These are “semi-fitted” with 5 different inseam lengths, a yoga or encased elastic waistband, optional pockets and an optional drawstring.

* The Joggerathon is going on ALL month long. If you’d like to see the pattern lineup and get more information, click here! Don’t forget to vote for your favorite! If you would like to go back and see any of the previous posts on the Joggerathon, click HERE.

Fabric

Recommended Fabric: Medium weight knits with at least 30% Stretch. 50% stretch for waistband/cuffs.

Instructions

Were the instructions easy to follow?

The instructions say that this pattern is semi-fitted and I think this is absolutely false. The instructions also gives instruction on where to take a bigger seam allowance if you want them to be more fitted. Don’t do this! Sew a muslin first with the normal seam allowance!

Other than that minor detail, the instructions are easy to follow.

Pattern

DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PATTERN PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?

Yes and no. Some photos on the listing are pretty fitted and some of them are  on the looser side.

WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?

  • First things first, these pants are so not semi fitted! I’m probably the most sad about this pair after sewing it up because I love this fabric! A size up would have been 100x better or fabric with twice as much stretch.
  • The calves on these are snug as a bug! Way too tight for this FT fabric
  • The ankle cuffs are so tight. My fabric probably doesn’t have enough stretch for the cuffs (I don’t always want to have to use CL for cuffs especially when it’s tricky to find fabric that matches right). Even if it did have more stretch stretch, the cuffs would still be way tight.
  • The pockets are really narrow. The most narrow of all the joggers I sewed.
  • The instructions have you sew the elastic inside the waistband before attaching it to the pants and I am not a fan of that, so naturally I skipped that and made a casing instead.

WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?

I would not sew them again. They are super fitted (unlike the semi-fitted fit description) and the pockets are pretty small/narrow. I know a lot of people love Peekaboo Patterns, but there are other’s I would recommend over this pair. This fabric is so freaking pretty though! I think the photos of this pair are my favorite from the bunch!

Have you sewn up the Java Joggers? What are your thoughts? I’d love to know in the comments below! If you missed the regular fit comparison part 1, you can check that out by clicking HERE. Be sure to come back tomorrow for the Jammin Joggers by Rockerbye Destash!

Cheers!

Thanks for the information! I’ve thought about buying these a few times because I generally like her patterns, but I’ve realized I have better luck with her kids patterns than adult patterns. I kept thinking the adult fit had probably improved, but I think I’ll stick with another pattern for now!

I haven’t loved any of the adult peekaboo patterns I’ve tried- mens or womens. I finally gave up on them and just use her kids patterns. Such a bummer that your favorite fabric was on a bust. I hate when that happens! Im LOVING these comparisons though! It’s so helpful!!

The Java Joggers were a huge bummer for me after making them. I measured myself and saw I would be a size small. I used bamboo FT. They are SO loose on me in all the wrong places. It looks like I’ve got major diaper bum. So sad. Hoping to find a better pattern. All the adult ones I’ve tried so far with peek a boo I’ve had to alter in a major way. Love the kids patterns though.

I have sewn these up a few times and suprisingly they are always a little looser than I’d like. I think that is because my waist is where I gain weight and that might throw off the sizing. That said I really like them in the capri length with a ponti de roma weight knit. I made some with actual sweatshirting and shortened them to be kind of sweats/joggers and they are really comfy. But for my preference I always raise the back waist 1″ and the front by 1/2″. The pocket size doesn’t bother me too much but it is a little small for my phone.

That’s interesting! Do you make them based on only your waist measurement or do you grade for your hips as well? I definitely need to make a few jogger shorts since it doesn’t feel like it will ever cool down where I am!
