Movie Night Pajamas SewAlong: Day 2 – Cut Everything Out

Hey hey hey! Welcome to Day 2 of the Movie Night Pajamas SewAlong! Today is an easy peasy day (unless you are making loads of pajamas this week!) as we are just cutting everything out. You should have your pattern pieces printed and graded (if necessary). If you still need help, make sure you are posting questions in the comments here or on the daily SAL thread’s in the Sew A Little Seam Facebook Group. And remember, if you are just tuning in, you can use the links above to see what you’ve missed.

The most important thing is making sure your fabric meets the minimum stretch requirements. If your fabric does not meet the minimum stretch (50% horizontal and 25% vertical), you run the risk of an improper fit. You can definitely use fabric with MORE stretch, but not less. 4-way stretch is also important because this is a fitted pattern. You also will need fabric with excellent recovery for cuffs and neckbands. This means your fabric will bounce back to its original shape after being stretched. Neckbands should also have at least 75% stretch. If you use fabric with less stretch, you run the risk of it not fitting over the head, especially for crew necks like the Movie Night Pajamas. If you want to use a woven fabric, you should check out the Holiday Night Pjs.

Before you cut out your fabric, make sure it has been laundered (washed and dried) the same way it will be once sewn. It’s also always a good idea to re-measure (just in case), especially for those littles. They grow like weeds! You don’t want to end up with a finished garment that doesn’t fit. We discussed pattern adjustments a little bit on Day 1.

Once you have everything cut, go ahead and drop a picture over on today’s daily thread on the SALS Facebook group. Here are my cut pjs for Scott (long sleeve/pants), long sleeve placket/pants for Max, short sleeve/shorts for Max and a pair for me (long sleeve/pants). I still need to cut out the fur baby’s’ pjs, but we don’t need those until Day 7. If you have any questions, you are welcome to post those on the FB thread as well. Then, come back tomorrow and we will start sewing! If you are doing the placket version, make sure you also cut out your interfacing! I like Pellon SF101.
